Insiders Experience: Iceland

Join us on a journey to Iceland to drink their beer, soak in their geography and culture, and be amazed by the sky above.

We have put together another amazing beercation to Europe, this time to the stunning country of Iceland!

Join us this December for our next group trip – Insiders Experience: Iceland!

In March of 2019, we partnered with our friends at Independent Ireland to put together a most incredible beercation experience – a week in the cities and countryside of Ireland during the week surrounding Saint Patrick’s Day! 23 travelers from all over the United States joined us on that very memorable week.

So we have put together another amazing beercation to Europe, this time to the stunning country of Iceland!

Our tour group will be led once again by Evan McElligott of Portland, a Certified Travel Associate who has organized and led many a group tour around the world.

Here is what we have planned for our week on the Insiders Experience: Iceland.

Daily Itinerary

Depart for KEF – Tuesday, December 3rd

An overnight flight from the United States will place us in Iceland in the early morning of Wednesday, December 4th.

Day 1 – Wednesday, December 4th – Arrive, Reykjanes Peninsula, Blue Lagoon and Northern Lights

We arrive and meet as a group before boarding our bus to head towards the Reykjanes Peninsula.

After an overnight flight, a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon geothermic spa is a perfect way to unwind before heading to Reykjavik.

Home to one of 25 wonders of the world, Blue Lagoon Iceland is a place where the powers of geothermal seawater create transformational spa journeys.

We will check in at the hotel in the afternoon, and the rest of the day is free until the Northern Lights tour in the evening (weather depending).

The Northern Lights tour will include a guide for the Northern Lights as well as an Icelandic Beer specialist so we can learn about the Icelandic beer culture and more.

Day 2 – Thursday, December 5th – Viking Games

The Viking Games are an event for all true beer enthusiasts who thirst for a fun experience as well as increased knowledge of beer, it‘s a tasty match of history and tradition.

We begin our tasting in Ægisgarður, the home of the most popular Icelandic beer, the Viking. A beer specialist will take us through the history of Icelandic alcohol, mainly beer. You will get to taste some of the best Icelandic beers, learn how to taste beer, learn how to pour a beer, play a little game, drink more beer and then again, taste more beer.

We plan to drink, taste and play in the true Viking spirit! DRINK AND BE MERRY! Don’t worry, we will also have food platters at the tables.

When we get back to Reykjavík, it might be the perfect night to visit Ingólfstorg for a European Christmas Market.

Alpine-like wooden huts, Christmas lights twinkling above, and an ice rink right in between – the perfect Christmas picture! Grab a pair of skates and hit the ice rink they set up on Ingólfstorg square, right in the middle of downtown Reykjavík.

Day 3 – Friday, December 6th – Visit Eimverk distillery and go to the Beer Academy at Bryggjan Brugghús

Eimverk Distillery is Iceland’s’ first and only whisky distillery and a perfect destination for whiskey fans and for anyone with an interest in Icelandic Spirits. They are also the only distillery producing spirits from 100% Icelandic barley. They make Flóki whisky, Vor a premium Gin,  and Víti their traditional Icelandic Brennivín.

In the distillery tour, we will have the opportunity to learn about the processes involved in creating Icelandic spirits from Icelandic barley; as well as sampling each of their unique products.

Beer Academy at Bryggjan Brugghús is an entertaining 60-minute tutoring seminar with plenty of beer and food. Included in the Beer Academy is a beer tasting platter paired with the freshest produce and delicious food from their kitchen.

After resetting at the hotel, Friday night is a great time to check out the Best Bars for Craft Beer in Reykjavik.

Day 4 – Saturday, December 7th – Golden Circle and Olvisholt brewery tour. Lunch stop at Fridheimar tomato farm.

Experience some of Iceland’s most popular natural sights on a tour of the Golden Circle.

The Golden Circle is the most visited area in Iceland and there is a good reason for it. In one day you get to see Waterfalls, Geysers and a National Park where you can visit the oldest Parliament in the World, walk between two continents and more.

This tour starts with a pick up at your accommodation in Reykjavik and we head to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, we will visit Lögberg, Drekkingarhylur, Öxarárfoss and walk between Continents.

After Thingvellir, we head to Geysir Geothermal Field where Strokkur spouts water up to 100 ft up in the air every few minutes. After the visit to Geysir, we will have the opportunity to make a short stop where you can see the famous Icelandic horses at a close range before we head to the world famous two-story Gullfoss Waterfall.

After Gullfoss, we will head to a late lunch at Fridheimar Tomato farm and then stop for a brewery visit at Ölvisholt brewery before heading back to Reykjavik.

This is going to be a big day, but with our time in the country coming to an end you might as well find out why they say…“you don’t know anything about partying until you have experienced a night out in Reykjavik city!”

Day 5 – Sunday, December 8th – Departure day.

Most flights will leave in the late afternoon around 5 pm, giving you much of the day to explore.

We really hope you can join us in December of 2019 as we will be in the amazing country of Iceland!
