Join us every 1st Friday of the month from 2:30-6:00pm for our Funky 1st Friday tour to learn the true power of the sour and more! This tour will be focusing on the unique fermentation techniques being practiced throughout the industry here in Portland and what exactly it is that makes you pucker up after that first sip of some of your favorite beers.

For our first stop, we will be visiting Allagash Brewing Company. Allagash Brewing Company is one of Maine’s most renowned breweries, showcasing a fusion of Belgian beer styles with a decidedly modern angle. Now in operation for over 20 years, Allagash is well known for their flagship witbier called Allagash White. However, the true secrets of this brewery lie in their use of classic brewing and fermentation techniques, including incorporation of wild and spontaneous yeasts, barrel-aging, and fruit forward offerings.

Next up, Rising Tide Brewing Co. The name of Rising Tide Brewing Company, inspired by the famous quote, “A rising tide lifts all boats,” encapsulates the collaborative spirit of the craft beer industry. This husband- and wife-owned brewery was founded near Allagash in 2010, and moved to the now-bustling East Bayside neighborhood in 2012. They have experienced tremendous growth with the popularity of their core beers like Zephyr and Maine Island Trail Ale. After remodeling and expanding their tasting room, they saw on-site revenue increase by 50 percent. They have expanded yet again, now with a dedicated space for experimental beers brewed with wild yeast and souring bacteria, more space in their existing 5,500 square foot production floor, and an area for private events in a community room.

For our last stop, we will visit Oxbow Blending and Bottling. A dynamic brewery with a true farmhouse operation in Newcastle, Oxbow Brewing Company recently opened a second tasting room and warehouse facility to better serve the Portland community. The hip space is bursting with graffiti by local artists and jammed with oak barrels to grow the company’s internationally-recognized wild beer program. This gives fans unprecedented access to a wide range of Oxbow’s hoppy saisons and funky experiments.

Finally, we’ll drop you back off at Old Port Spirits and Cigars for some more bottles and cans before continuing your exploration of lively downtown Portland.

Please note that tour stops may change without notice due to events and availability of staff at each venue.
