Beyond the Glass is intended to act as a hands-on group learning experience that aims to equip each attendee with new skills or knowledge that will add value to their skill set as an individual working in and advocating for craft beer.

Maine is home to some of the most exceptional and diverse beer offerings found anywhere in the world. Our reputation as a craft beer destination has attracted millions of beer fans from all over the world to our beautiful state.
When those guests stay in our hotels and inns, dine in our restaurants, visit the many bars and lounges, and stop by brewery tasting rooms we want them to have an amazing and memorable experience centered around the beer.
We have created a new event called Beyond the Glass and it is a free industry training event targeted at anyone working in a customer-facing craft beer sales and service capacity.
We are hosting the event with the support of The Bar Association, the Maine Brewers’ Guild, and the United States Bartenders Guild Portland at the historic U.S. Custom House next Monday night.
It is intended as a hands-on group learning experience that will help to equip each attendee with new skills or knowledge that will add value to their skill set as an individual working in and advocating for craft beer.
There are four areas of focus for Beyond the Glass:
  • Beer 101 – presented by Matthew Geary, Advanced Cicerone
  • Serving & Storage – presented by Alex Stevens, founder of Maine Line Cleaning and Draft Services
  • Conducting Sensory – presented by Jack Van Paepeghem, Advanced Cicerone
  • Food Pairings – presented by Adam Stein, Certified Cicerone
For the food we have enlisted the help of Kerry Altiero of Cafe Miranda. We’ve seen the menu, and it looks fantastic!
Please note that this training is not open to the general public, all attendees must be working in the hospitality industry and have an interest in spending a couple of hours to learn more about beer.
We hope that you and any appropriate people from your team will join us in this small step towards solidifying Maine’s reputation in the craft beer world. Please be sure to register by this Friday, November 17th.
Because the story of beer in Maine goes well Beyond the Glass.

NOTE: The Beyond the Glass program begins promptly at 6:00pm (doors open 5:45pm), due to the security needs of the building we cannot allow guests to enter past 6:15pm.
