Friday’s Tour

We will hop on the bus and head south to The Run of the Mill. Formerly managed by Maine Brew Bus founder Zach Poole, Run of the Mill occupies a beautiful old mill building overlooking the Saco River. This brew pub has a wide lineup of beers produced in traditional British-style open fermenters, and its unique two-story brewing set-up is a perfect place to learn about the brewing process with a sample in hand. Fun fact: Run of the Mill is the sister brew pub to Hallowell’s The Liberal Cup.

Next up is Dirigo Brewing Co. Tom Bull has been in all phases of the business. He is a former homebrewer, bar manager, commercial brewer, and has even worked delivering beers for a distributor. After a successful run with his previous brewery called Bull Jagger, Tom is back with his new brewery called Dirigo Brewing Company in a section of the former Biddeford mill complex. His specialty is lagers, but he knows how to brew great ales as well. Visit the impressive tasting room overlooking the Saco Falls as you sip on Tom’s great beer.

Last stop is Funky Bow Brewery and Beer Company. A young business seeing some astounding growth, Lyman’s only brewery involves a father and son team leveraging the success of their organic landscaping operation into a successful brewing operation. Funky Bow has recently expanded, and now cans many of its offerings to greatly increase the brand’s retail presence. The atmosphere at this out of the way spot is excellent, and usually involves a wood-fired pizza oven going at full bore.

At the conclusion of the Southern Crawl tour, we will drop you off back at The Craft Beer Cellar, where you can pick up some beer for later in the night or head out into The Old Port.

Saturday’s Tour

We will hop on the bus and head south to Barreled Souls Brewing Co. in Saco. By now you’ve surely heard of beers being aged in oak barrels for unique flavors. Well, this may be the only brewery in the country fermenting 100% of its beer in oak barrels! Head brewer Chris is making a huge variety of unusual styles in wooden fermentors, adding in plenty of fruits, vegetables, spices, and herbs grown in the gardens just outside the front door. We’ll sample a flight of these beers and perhaps conquer the shuffleboard table in a beautiful tasting room.

Our final stop on the tour we head to another one of Biddeford’s former mill buildings, where we’ll check out Banded Horn Brewing Co. Founded in 2012, Banded Horn’s co-owner Ian is former head brewer of Sixpoint Brewing Co. in New York City. Banded Horn hit the ground running, with everything from a huge Russian Imperial Stout to to a crisp German Pilsner, with specialties peppering the line-up. We’ll try a flight of samples and explore the impressive space, which leaves plenty of room for growth.

At the conclusion of the Southern Crawl tour, we will drop you off back at Old Port Spirits, where you can pick up some beer (and more) for later in the night or head out into The Old Port.

Please note that tour stops may change without notice due to events and availability of staff at each venue.
