Haven’t you always wanted to try curling?

Join us as we hit the sheet to deliver stones from the hack and practice our sweeps towards the house in order to learn the medieval Scottish sport of curling.

Join us on Sunday, April 23rd from 3-7pm for our brand new Curling and Beer tour, in partnership with the Pine Tree Curling Club! We will meet at the Portland Ice Arena in Portland, where you will get an intro to curling and time to play a game with each other and some of the club members.

Pine Tree Curling Club is an organization out of Portland established in 2015. They have approximately 50+ members, and the level of experience ranges from first-time curlers to experienced. Their goal is to promote the sport of Curling throughout the Southern Maine area by offering opportunities to learn and enjoy the sport.

We will then hop on the bus to enjoy a snack provided by Ten Ten Pié, our baking partner located at 171 Cumberland Avenue in Portland.

Off we go to visit Lone Pine Brewing Co. After working in the retail side of beer for over a decade, owner Tom Madden decided that the time was right to break into producing his own beer. A long-time home brewer and Certified Cicerone, he reconnected with his longtime friend John Paul who had been working in the music industry in California. Together, they opened Lone Pine in March of 2016 in a former countertop production space in Portland’s East Bayside, and they are churning out American-style Pale and Wheat Ales for retail sale and enjoyment in their elevated tasting room.

For our last stop, we will take a trip to Fore River Brewing Co. Fore River opened in South Portland in early 2016, and they are already the oldest of three breweries in the city. John and TJ – two friends and avid homebrewers – teamed up with Alex the property owner (who had just sold his landscaping business) to open the brewery. They worked for months to hand-craft and perfect their beers and the beautiful tasting room, which has both classic and modern barn elements in the design. Look for an outside beer garden at this spot just across the river from Portland.

Finally, after the curling and brew adventure, we will drop you back off at the Portland Ice Arena so you can continue your exploration of lively Portland.
